I had the pleasure of visiting the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors Apex 2022 conference at the Biltmore in Scottsdale, AZ. It was my first conference since COVID and my first time at a NAIFA conference, so I didn’t really know what to expect. I want to share my experience and new found understanding of NAIFA.
It’s important to start off by stating that I wasn't really familiar with NAIFA’s agenda prior to the event. I was amazed to see how they lobby the state and federal government on behalf of the Insurance and Financial advisors. This really struck a chord with me. Insurance companies spend millions a year lobbying these same government officials, however their interests are not always the same as the actual advisor and client. Learning that there was someone lobbying on behalf of me and my clients was a refreshing idea to learn of.
NAIFA was founded in 1890 which may give you the impression that it is an old foundation, they are stuck in their ways. The average age of an insurance industry professional is 59 which matched the average age of attendees at the event. I have always felt young when I first started my career in this industry and I’m happy to confirm that I still am! In an attempt to attract a younger audience, the conference brought younger speakers. Though I missed most of the speakers, as I was networking with other attendees, there was a lot of positive feedback about the speakers and the topics they spoke about.
My main focus of the convention was to network and connect with other industry professionals around the country. I was looking to network with insurance agents that are dissatisfied with their current general agency and looking to partner with a Fintech Agency like Toropoint. Although many of them were not a fit for us business wise there was an interesting perspective of the different industry professionals in the business. One thing I must say is that Toropoint is an elite shop. No offense to anyone else that was there but very few people operate on the level we do.
We’re still looking for the top echelons of agents to partner with. If you think that’s you, email me at chris@toropoint.com.
